Sometimes it can be hard to tune into what our body is telling us when we have a baby or small child. For me, finding a moment where I can stop and really focus on myself has been really tricky with a wee boy who is very mobile and into EVERYTHING.
When faced with such challenges, stopping to check in with ourselves can be even more important (even for just a minute or two). When we really stop and listen, our body often sends us powerful messages about how we’re really doing and what we need right now. Sometimes this can also make us feel anxious if we’ve been ignoring the body’s messages for a while and we need to go slow and show ourselves compassion or reach out for support (maybe a friend, family member, support service or health professional depending on what’s coming up).
Recently, my lovely osteopath asked me what I was feeling in my body when I was struggling during a treatment. The message my body sent was that I was feeling overwhelmed and I needed some self care. I had been setting up my business, planning for my return to work at the end of my maternity leave and trying to keep tabs on a very active 11 month old. It was a lot…
And I was not consciously aware of just how much I needed some self care. Having that awareness helped me to set up this challenge to motivate myself to focus on what I need AND support others to do the same.
So, what is your body telling you? Take a couple of minutes to tune in and gain that awareness. What do you need right now? What can you do to help meet that need today? Today, I need to slow down.
